A trademark case before the General Court of the European Union, a payments platform with apps on both stores, a catalogue of millions of products, AI automations running every day. Trademarks, domains and IP
Shopify Inc. took the dispute over the EU figurative mark “Shoppi”, which I have co-owned since 2017, to the General Court of the European Union. I followed the case in English and coordinated more than six lawyers across three jurisdictions on the related EUIPO and USPTO proceedings.
OutcomeOn 12 October 2022 the Court dismissed Shopify’s action: no likelihood of confusion with SHOPIFY, and “SHOP” is only weakly distinctive.
Opposition filed by Shopify against Shoppi UG’s national mark “shoppi” at the German Patent and Trade Mark Office (DPMA), no. 30 2022 223 812.1.
OutcomeOpposition rejected on 2 July 2025: the mark stays registered.
Assisted the owner of the MULTIWATTS mark (multiwatts.com) in responding to the US Patent and Trademark Office’s genericness objection.
Directly negotiated the purchase of shoppi.com.br; recovered shoppi.fr from a speculative registration; ran UDRP and URS proceedings in person for the group’s domain portfolio.
Advised a Turin-based automotive design company on filing its registered designs.
Software platforms and AI automation
Platform designed and built for Shoppi UG (Berlin), Shoppi Ltd (London) and Shoppi Inc. (Delaware). I led a team of four developers across front-end, back-end, Android and iOS; the Shoppi GO and Shoppi POS apps are published on the App Store and Google Play, with contactless payments and Stripe integration.
The shoppi.app marketplace imports merchant feeds and normalises them into a single catalogue of about 2.9 million products (measured August 2026), browsable by market and language.
shoppi.app/mcp exposes product and shop search over the Model Context Protocol: an assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT queries it directly, with no keys and no custom integration.
Language-model automations running in production: catalogue import and clean-up, preparing and publishing content on Facebook and Instagram, daily operating reports, and checks on email campaigns before they are sent.
Technical lead for the rental software platform: releasing and maintaining the stable version, building experimental features, organising technical resources and customer support.
With team Marie Curie, an IoT and artificial intelligence platform for waste collection.

Digitalisation and public funding
Technical report supporting a construction company’s application for digitalisation funding: starting point, planned investment and expected results, in the format the call requires.
Took a time-bank association’s service online, from member management to the exchanges between members.
Brand and hardware product line sold in physical shops in Italy and through e-commerce channels, with logistics across the Czech Republic, China, Germany, the UK and the US. Covered by iSpazio (2016) and PRWeb (2013).
Event series I created and hosted for the Berlin Retail & eCommerce Meetup at WeWork Berlin, with master classes in English and Italian. In San Francisco, in February 2019, episode 17 of “Experience This” on the future of retail was recorded live at one of the events.
